In 2018, Caberg is set to increase the quantity and quality of its riders, who will be able to take advantage of the new Drift Evo, a helmet that is a real concentration of technology and know-how, thus ensuring performance and safety. The tri-composite outer shell (fibreglass, Kevlar and carbon) is now available in two sizes to guarantee lightness and excellent aerodynamics. The wide visibility offered by the quick-release visor, the comfort of the new removable and washable interior with double anti-turbulence neck roll and the effective internal ventilation are all down to the R&D department, which has been able to utilise the data from various tests conducted on track by Caberg riders.
The racing season that is set to start in a few weeks’ time will see Caberg involved in the most important world and national championships.
2018 sees a Caberg new-entry in the shape of Ayrton Badovini, competing in the Supersport World Championship this year with the Vamag team’s MV Agusta Reparto Corse. The experienced rider, who hails from Biella but is a long-time Romagna resident, was the winner of the Superstock 1000 FIM Cup in 2010. After a season spent in World Superbike, he has now decided to return to the 600 class, a category in which he raced in 2016, winning the Sepang race. Armed with his talent, significant experience and a factory-supported MV F3, Badovini will be aiming for the top in World Supersport.
The collaboration between Caberg and Massimo Roccoli will continue in 2018. Thanks to his experience, the rider has made a significant contribution to the development of the Drift Evo helmet. The five-time Italian Supersport champion will continue in the CIV 600 class, with the aim of increasing his title tally. Last season, Massimo competed in some of the CIV races, earning the win at Misano, while also participating in certain World Superbike rounds. This year, Roccoli will focus only on CIV Supersport, where he will ride a Yamaha R6.
One of Roccoli’s most fierce opponents in the CIV Supersport will surely be Alessio Velini, in his third year with Caberg. After winning the National Trophy 1000 SBK in 2016 and obtaining third place in the same championship in 2017, Alessio has decided to return to the national Supersport series. The Assisi native, who has competed in both the World Superbike and Supersport Championships in the past and boasts numerous wins in the national series, will be fighting for the title of Italian champion with a Yamaha R6.
Positive confirmation for Simone Saltarelli, an expert CIV Superbike rider who will use the Caberg Drift for the second year in a row.
Caberg is pleased to announce that Matteo Ferrari has also chosen to use the Drift Evo in the Italian Superbike championship. Third in the overall standings in both 2016 and 2017, Ferrari has proved to be one of the most promising young Italian riders, so much so that this year he joins the Barni Racing Ducati team and will compete in the CIV Superbike as well as benefitting from a few wildcard entries in the European Stock 1000. It will be an important year for Matteo, one which could open the door to a future in Stock 1000, maybe even World Superbike.
But Ferrari is not the only ‘junior’ in the Caberg team, as it comprises three more talented youngsters in the shape of Luca Bernardi, Andrea Fusco and Reid Battye.
Luca Bernardi, just 16 years old, is the Italian Supersport 300 champion. In 2018, he will take part in both the CIV SS 300 with the aim of defending his title and the SS300 World Championship. An important year for him too then, as he makes his international debut at some of the world’s most prestigious tracks.
Fifteen-year old Andrea Fusco, winner of the CIV Moto3 race in Misano in 2017, will remain in the category in which he starred last year with the aim of making another step up in terms of quality and fighting for the title of Italian champion.
After graduating from the Australian Supersport 300 in 2017, 15-year-old Reid Battye will take part in the CIV Supersport 300 and certain 300 World Championship races this year.
Caberg is happy to be able to confirm its collaboration with Maurizio Castelli, who in 2018 will also participate in the DiDi (Diversely Disabled) Dream World Bridgestone International Championship, which includes races held in conjunction with the MotoGP and Superbike world championships. In addition, Maurizio will race with the able-bodied in the Centro Italia Trophy and the 200 Miglia del Mugello.
