The twelfth and final round of the Supersport world championship drew to a close saturday beneath the powerful floodlights of the spectacular Losail track, located just outside Doha in Qatar.
Following his result in friday’s Superpole2, Christian Gamarino, riding for the Bardahl Evan Bros. Honda Racing team, lined up on row four of the grid today for the 15-lap race.
The Italian rider got away well as the lights went out and was lapping in around tenth position through the opening laps. However, Gamarino then found that he was unable to up his pace and lost a few positions as a result, eventually crossing the line in twelfth place and scoring championship 4 points in the process. He closes the season in eleventh position in the rider standings, with a total of 50 points.
Christian Gamarino: “It wasn’t the race I was hoping for. I expected more. I started off well but then couldn’t find the right feeling with the bike and lost contact with the leading group. I wasn’t able to take the right lines and when I tried to push, I’d run wide through the turns and lose time. I’m disappointed because I really wanted to finish the season well, also as a way of thanking my team, with whom I have got on so well. Big thanks to them and also to all the sponsors for their support”.
